The Landscape Design Trust has welcomed the news that a set of national standards is being drawn up for sustainable drainage systems (SUDS) in England and Wales.
Developed by Defra and the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG), the national standards will express the philosophy of SUDS in mimicking natural drainage as closely as possible.
They will be a key mechanism for securing the uptake of SUDS in new developments and the redevelopment of existing sites.
Jane Friend, chief executive of the Landscape Design Trust, commented: "Sustainable drainage systems may be evolving quickly but uptake has been disappointingly slow. New national standards mark a positive step towards helping us adapt to climate change.
"LDT will be working with representatives from the Landscape Institute and the Environment Agency to provide training on the new guidance for local authorities and designers seeking to incorporate sustainable drainage solutions into their schemes."
A questionnaire has been developed on behalf of Defra and WAG to further understand the requirements for the national SUDS standards. Click here to complete the questionnaire. It should take less than 20 minutes and the deadline is 30 October.
