As The Big Tidy Up campaign approaches its first birthday in September, organisers have another reason to be celebrating. Over the past year, 14,650 groups have signed up to carry out Big Tidy Ups across the country which has led to a staggering 50,000 bags of rubbish being collected.
That is enough rubbish to fill 714 builders skips, and if lined up the bags would stretch a whopping 31 miles!
The Big Tidy Up is one of several national campaigns run by Keep Britain Tidy to help improve the local environment. It aims to get everyone out on the streets, cleaning up their corner of the community in the country’s biggest ever litter pick.
Natalie Forrester, marketing coordinator for the Big Tidy up campaign said “We would like to say thank you to everyone who has taken part for helping us reach this landmark achievement.
“It is fantastic that everyone has come together and made such a positive impact on their local environment and even better is the news that that our streets are now 50,000 bags of litter cleaner!”
However, there is still a way to go to reach the campaign's target of 500,000 bags of rubbish. To find out how to get involved, visit The Big TIdy Up website.
