Glen will cross the icy waters of the English Channel
Glen Macfarlane, Director of land planning and environmental design consultancy, Macfarlane Wilder Ltd, is set to swim the English Channel, in aid of The National Autistic Society (NAS), The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign and Tommy’s, the baby charity.
Glen, who will swim the 25 miles in relay with four friends, is aiming to raise £25,000, which will be split between the three charities. Although the weather conditions dictate when Glen can attempt his swim, he is hoping it will take place in July.
Glen will take the plunge from Shakespeare Beach between Dover and Folkstone at 4am before enduring unpredictable weather patterns, jelly fish, around 90 cross Channel ferries, up to 600 container ships and sea water reaching just 15 degrees Celsius. Glen aims to reach Cap Griz Nez, in northern France, at approximately 8.45pm the same day.
Glen said: “I’m really looking forward to the challenge but am very aware that the sea will be a lot colder than my local swimming pool.”
