The cube 'Colours' begins its journey at Kielder Castle
The story of a salmon's life journey is being beautifully depicted through a year-long travelling art show.
Ten unique cube sculptures, each measuring two metre square, have begun a journey which takes them along the River Tyne, from Kielder Castle to the Mouth of the Tyne.
Once the cubes visit Tyneside they will make a return journey back to Kielder in Northumberland for the project's finale.
The cubes, which are named Fins, Reflection, Scales, Birth, Wellies, Habitat, Journey, Bones, Colours and Message in a Bottle, are being positioned to reflect the Tyne's salmon trail, taking in selected rural and urban locations en route.
The art project has been created by the Environment Agency and xsite, in collaboration with Commissions North.
"The Tyne Salmon Trail (TST) should serve to entertain, inform, provoke and ultimately educate," said Anna Hedworth of Newcastle-based xsite architecture.
"TST is serving as a wonderful source of education and information as people look to learn something new about an important part of the north east's heritage. We hope as the project evolves it becomes seen like an old friend of the family as people relate, celebrate and associate with the messages being portrayed."
